Native Plants

Native plants are plants that have existed for many years and that occur naturally in our local landscape. Native plants can be trees, flowers, grasses, shrubs, and small bedding plants.

The positive advantages to native plants are that they are already acclimated to our climate and require minimal maintenance. They do not usually require fertilizer (though fertilizer can always help) and pesticides. Additionally, native plants provide food and nectar for the local wildlife.

Sweetbay Magnolia

When planting native plants, you can plant them in any style that you desire as long as it suits their basic needs. However, we recommend planting native plants in a freer, relaxed style into the landscape as opposed to a formal, straight cut hedging. You will also want to keep the architectural style of your home in mind.

Plumbago

Another advantage of native plants is that they are usually water efficient and drought tolerant but also forgiving of our heavy rains. If you like low-maintenance, native plants are what you want.
